Anybody hear about this hot cam thing they've got cooking over at Vespa SoHo?

http://www.scooterbbs.com/board/DCForumID11/5131.html

What is it and how can I get one?

We have them in stock. Have not tried them yet. I'll do a really good deal on one to a local customer to put on their bike so we can get some feedback. Soho says they have a decent improvement on a stock bike, and a very nice improvement on a kitted bike.

My apologies for making my first post here an advert.. but i just got turned on to this websites by another forums offsite link here to the MC crash topic...

anyway i'm the one who's been spreading the word about the Hot Cam... I'll tell you this about it.... due to the labor involved in dropping the engine the best deal is to get the cam and the 190 kit at the same time if ure not putting it in yourself. at half the price of the 190 kit u do save a little money if ure getting just that over the 190 kit.. the difference is in the acceleration... where as the 190 kit alone makes the bike pop from zero quickly.. the hot cam alone sorta surges as you go.. but like i said in my original post.. i was able to keep up w/ a guy slimmer then me who had the 190 kit and a sito pipe while i was riding a 150 w/ the Hot cam and the Ti Force pipe (which has been argued to be a slightly better pipe on performance) we were at a stop light b4 the willy b bridge hit full throttle at green he jumped a head for sec then i started to get to him.. and we finnally matched speeds (he was about 2 feet in front of me at that point) all the way to apex of the bridge....

as for AD's bike..w/ both the 190 kit and Cam and Ti Pipe... theres no doubting anyone who rode w/ him or rode his bike around NYC that his bike was the fastest et4 in the city...

Oh yeah... I gotta drop the pic on here too.. i'm just too proud of it.. now thats a kool day at the office..

3 in the afternoon....
*the boss* hey i want u guys to go outside and pop some wheelies and take pix of it so we can sell this hot cam...

*us* jeez... look what we gotta do to make a paycheck...

1 hour later.... many many good shots later...

*us* maybe just one more.... GRIN....

i have to admit that bike looks sick - even better in person. i bought my lx150 there a few months ago and that et4 sits out front and just looks GOOD. the guys inside talk about Ad doing wheelies on it but that is the first time i've seen it.......so how much would that cost to get added to my lx150????????

the crazy thing is that he sold the bike that same day.. as long as I've known AD he's had that bike.. but that was his last run on it... he's picked up another ET4 which he plans to modify in the same ways as his last one.. plus possible drop the variator and clutch stuff in as well. so maybe this next one will be even sicker....

as for the cam.. were selling it at the shop for 195 i think... about half the price of the 190 kit.. but remember u need both in order to get the same power he's got going... and either part is labor intensive... so u have to take the labor cost into account on top of the price of the part... since u have to drop the whole engine to do it.. so my recommendation if ure planning on both at some point.. it makes more financial sense to wait till u can afford both at once...

Do you have any engineering documentation supporting this cam? Can you post the modified timings, versus the OEM cam timings? Can you post torque and horsepower curves of your cam versus the OEM cam?

Take care,
Gary

Nope sorry.. I'm just telling you my bike is faster.. but hey.. you don't have to buy it... I was just asked to spread the word... there is a noticable difference.. wether it's a difference everyones is willing to pay for.. shrug.. i make nothing off the sale.. so i dont' really care.. I do have to say i just picked up a salvage et4 for cheap and i will be dropping the cam into that one as well...

This cam and the 190 kits are on my to-do list as soon as I log a few more miles on our LX.

Reminder to anyone in socal who wants one of these, that we are willing to do a good deal on the cam and installation so we can get some personal feedback on it. Offer is first come first serve.

I would take you up on that, but if I were to do the hot cam, I'd want the cylinder kit on, too, and the cash ain't there yet, even with a good deal.

Aw, well.

ok kids.. for those asking for technical data here it is... it all means nuthin to me.. but here goes...

For those of you requesting tech specs, Intake valve lift is increased from .278" to .290" and exhaust valve lift is increased from .259" to 280". Intake valve duration is increased from 226 to 264 degrees @ .05 of lift while exhaust duration is increased from 222 to 264 degrees. > Basically, this cam optimizes and increases horsepower at the RPM where the transmission shifts for maximum acceleration. It does idle a little 'lumpier' than stock, as is the case with all 'hot' cams.

Hey drg,
don't want to hijack the thread and I can repost if you can help.
Am I correct in my belief that Vespa SoHo came up with the Ti-Force pipe?
Or am I mistaken?
My question if you know is, has anyone you know of 'repacked' the pipe?
After 9000 miles on mine I can tell that the packing has become a solid lump.
Not that performance has changed, just wondering.

SOHO HOT CAM VS MALOSSI
The question is will this cam be better (faster & cheaper) than the Malossi cam?

where can i get more info on that cam? It doesn't look like an 150cc Leader Engine Cam.. SIP isn't the friendliest interface for searching.. can i get a direct link to the product?

as for the Pipe... yeah it was originally designed at Soho... I don't know anyone personally who's repacked it.. but it's not incredibly difficult.. just drill out the rivets.. take out the lump put some more.. what is it.. fiberglass? .. in.. and rerivet it.... I've gone through a pipe myself but fortuantly one of the perks of working there (thank god since i paid full price or my first one!) was buying the can on the cheap... sadly though the Pipes are no longer available until we find a new manufacturer... so def rehabilitate ure pipe if u can...

found the link to the malossi camshaft myself..

course there's no way to directly link to the cam.. but the price is

175.43 Euro... which translates (currently) to about 15 dollars more then Web Cams Camshaft... plus shipping ...

so i guess as for the power difference.. who's going to be the one to try both and see if one is better then the other?
