I have been using my old Clarks Black boots riding. It has decent ankle protection, but the tread on the sole doesn't grip as well. There were times when my foot would slip a bit as I place it down when stopping.

Early evening yesterday, I swung by Cycle Gear to look at some boots or shoes and found this at about
80.00:

* Nubuck leather and denim construction
for lightweight durability and great looks
* Inner and outer ankle discs for additional protection
* Double-fluted steel-shank sole adds stability,
protection and comfort
* Low-cut design is comfortable on and off the bike

With jeans over it, it looks like a tennis shoe. It's non restricting and comfortable. No slipping of footing on stop and go traffic. Reasonable pricing.

I'm curious to see what kind of protective shoe/boot one wears when riding?

I've got various boots/shoes that I wear at different times. I've been drooling over photos of Sidi Doha's but can't bring myself to pony up the $ for them. The ones you show look pretty good. What's the brand/model?

I wear a pair of Diadora Express men's boots that I bought at SJ Vespa & BMW. They are laceless (i.e., zipper & velcro), and are pretty comfortable.

i wear 'ecco' hiking boots and really like them, very comfy, good grip and ankle protection. i know not motorcycle boots but you can wear them on/off the scooter well. not sure how much you want to spend overall - i think they were close to $165.00 but don't remember - i suck with pic's so can't put them up here to show ya...

Hello All,

I just checked the Spidi shoe link that d2mini posted and I think it would be a good idea to show pictures of the shoe worn with jeans or slacks to give us a better idea of the look since photographs we see online may be misleading with nice lighting, cool angles, etc.

I know..I know..function is more important. But like many, I believe in gear that satisfies both form and function.

I shall take pictures of mine with jeans this weekend and post.

A pair of I.Travel Enrick leather waterproof boots that I got from Ross for like $30...(they're currently selling on amazon for $125).

Not motorcycle boots, but they have a grippy sole, cover the ankles and look a bit stylish to boot!

I wear either Frye 12" Engineer boots, Frye Brando lace-ups, or Trickers Stow wingtip boots. I prefer the Trickers Stow because I don't have to change shoes when I get to work.

On rainy days, highly water resistant nubuck middleweight REI hikers bought in warn-once condition from an REI attic sale for $35.

Other days, a pair of well-worn leather Vasques bought for $2 at some church flea market in McLean, Va.

On rally days, trips and other more-intensive riding conditions, a pair of Timberland Doc look-alikes that I've had for longer than I can remember. They're surprisingly heavy-duty.

Ever since my days on the ground staff of a major airline, I've worn Bates Enforcer Ultra-Lites. Sturdy construction (good for a year or so, daily work wear), fiberglass ANSI-rated safety toe, non-metal construction to aid in weight reduction and magnetometer passage, side-zips for easy donning and doffing, and style simple enough for the office or uniform in addition to casual wear. They're available in a huge variety of size and width combinations. The best part? They average $75 online.

I wear Harley Davidson Engineer's Boots year round, On and off the scooter.
They took me awhile to break in but once broken in they feel great.

Nice durable boot, Very water resistant and offer good ankle protection.

A policeman friend of mine tells me that every time he spots a scooter-rider's footwear in the road after an accident, he's more than likely to find a severed foot in it as well. There's not much holding your feet on...

Best to wear boots that go high over the ankle, so even if you do break your foot at least all the bits are held together.

Yes! Gym shoes will fly off in an accident, or if they stay on the friction will rub right through them down to your skin, then right through that to the bone.

That's the same reason you should wear, at the very least, pants with Kevlar in the friction areas (seat, knees).

good thread, I'm going on a long trip this summer, trying to decide if I want to stick with the shoes I wore last year. Montrail Torre GTX. Great on traction, good bc I was also camping/hiking, water proof, great ankle support-lalala.
But HOT. Frigging HOT. There were miserable days.

Found a nice Merrell shoe discounted that offers ankle support-not full ankle, just mid but its good.

Can't decide how much ankle support really means in case of a bad accident.

Black frye engineers (15" leg, 2" heel, goodyear welt, neoprene oil resistant sole. Good on the scoot and at the office. Tall enough to stay on, they go to just below the knee.

If summer ever gets here (yes, it's freakin' snowing again...) it'll be fryes with flippies in the pet carrier.

I generally wear 3/4 nubuck Timberlands on my scoot, 6 inch black leather TMBs on my Street, but I just bought a pair of these Icons for $50 bucks -- such a deal.
