Nice
Looks a lot better in your pics than in the stock shots they provide.
How do you think the fit is? Does it run true to size to the other helmets you've tried? What about the interior shape.... Nice M8 too. It's funny, your helmet shots totally have the leica look with the blown out background, nice Bokeh! |

What is a Bokeh? The helmet runs small. I had to get an XL, even thought I wear an L in every other company. It is a SUPER comfy fit!

Different versions of the same focal length may have different bokeh. It's just a way for people who hardly shoot their very expensive cameras to justify buying more lenses to their wives! Too bad about that sizing. I was hoping to get one of these, but it will never fit as I probably would need an XXL! Anyway, great looking helmet and scooter. Good luck with both! |

Dude...
...looking at the prices on that helmet i'm seeing on websites, it's ~$800. what did you pay for that thing? don't get me wrong - it looks gorgeous ( though i would have a hard time in anything less than a FF ) Just curious if i would have to take out a second mortgage to buy one. |

Wait....
Didn't you claim to be "broke" before???? Not judging but..... I am coming to live in your "broke" world....A world of Impulse buy Ducatis, impulse buy SS's (kick ass SS's I do have to say) & $800 helmets (Kickass $800 helmets I must say)...... Digging the helmet even if it does make everyone who wears it look like this guy... Might I suggest an ironic beard????? EDIT: I am thick....you are already sprouting one.......it is in the gestation period.... sorry, I had to ⚠️ Last edited by Thom on UTC; edited 1 time

Yeah, I claimed broke! Hahah, those were the days. I paid of a lot of debt since then, cancelled some CCs and had a great summer of tips. Come winter, I'll be broke again, I'm sure. But I'll be broke with an unBREAKable head! LOL!

Hahah, yeah, funny story with the camera...so...when my dad passed away I got his camera gear. Old entry level nikon stuff...basically not worth much. I sold most of it for very little money and bought a Nikon D70....shot it for a few years, then bought a Nikon D2X after I sold the D70. The D2X was too big for my liking so sold IT and ALL of my lenses for my friend for just enough money to buy the M8 body the day it was released. The M8 body sat on my desk for nearly 1 year so I could save up the $3k I needed to buy the lens! THEN, the day I got my lens there was a recall, so I had to send the body/lens to germany and it stayed there for 6 months...got it back...shot for 2 months, shutter breaks...back to germany...6 more months! I've had the camera for over 2 years now, and only been able to shoot it for 50% of that time! LAMEZ!

It definitely is a unique way of shooting, and for a guy like you at your job, and with that scooter and helmet, it is the only camera you should be seen with. Except for maybe an old black paint M series.... I use canon and medium format on the job, but when I am shooting for fun, or with my family, it is always the leicas that I use, sometimes, film, sometimes digital... Anyway, enjoy your new found fame as "the helmet guy!" |

Leica glass is hte best in the world! Also, their heritage is very impressive. I dunno, but the WORST photos I've taken on my Leica are as good as the best photos I've taken on any other camera. The color is amazing!

not really a walk around camera - by the time i pack the meter, film holders, dark cloth, tripod, and other large-format krap, it's more of a 'lug-around' camera ... but oh me does it ever take a nice picture. film costs £2 a sheet so taking photos with this is a very low margin of error activity. anyway, back to admiring the stunning helmet. |

Opening the can of worms
tonysmallframe wrote: What do Leicas bring to the table that other digitals don't? I never understood the draw of their system (Still shooting a RZ67ProII as a walkaround camera, though) Anyway, regarding the little point and shoot leicas, (C-Lux, D-lux, etc) they are just really nice cameras with small cosmetic and firmware changes from their panasonic cousins (yes made by panasonic)... But in the case of the M8, it is a real rangefinder body, similar to the M series film cameras of old. And what makes it special are the lenses... The main difference is that unlike a SLR, there is no mirror to swing out of the way, so the lenses can be built closer to the film/sensor - which allows some more options in the optical design. Then the lenses are built on a "price is no object" basis - so the Leica 50mm 1.4 might cost $3500 compared to $500 for the same focal length in Canon. So what are you paying for? Exotic glass used. Brass and aluminum construction. High manufacturing tolerances. Design without cost or manufacturing based compromise. Hand made. Small production numbers. And very high optical qualities. So even though you'll probably say that I am full of crap, the first thought I had when I saw the photos in this post was "leica." Even my wife who is not a photographer can see the difference. It is not huge, but when you have to shoot almost every day, it's a nice option to have. Kind of like the difference between a Vespa and a Honda. Both great, both useful, but with different missions and target buyers. You can go the same place on a Ruckus as you can on a Vespa, but I think you'll have more fun on the Vespa. Same with the Leica... |
