I had some sort of problem while installing the update. My phone had to do a restore which it has done, first back to factory settings and now restoring it back to my last sync done today prior to attempting the update. Now it appears to be reinstalling all my apps. It will have to reload my music and photos etc. as well. I'm not sure if I have the 3.0 installed or not at this point.

it also deleted all of the buttons such as delete for email, and i can't figure out ho to get them back.

I had problems myself. After updating I got a message saying that iTunes Store could not complete the operation (or something to that effect) and to try again later. The only thing I could do was make emergency calls... I couldn't restore the software or actually turn it on - there were no bars for service. Repeated attempts to reload the software only brought back the same message. After about 10 attempts in about 30 minutes did my phone reboot properly showing Version 3.0 in 'Settings'
I'm happy now. I was kind of kicking myself for being in such a hurry to upgrade. Waiting a day or two to let the servers settle down is always prudent.

All is fine now, once it reloaded everything I can see that all my music, contacts and everything else is back on my iPhone. I do have the 3.0 version and from what I can see it is definitely a bit snappier in functions. I like the landscape for Mail, that is a huge bonus. I haven't tried much else since I'm at work but look forward to playing with it later. I really want to see how tethering works though.

anyone know how to move the programs icons from page to page? i now have about 6 pages instead of 3.

3 of the new pages it added have one program icon on them. there are holes from programs in the other pages. i can't figure out how to drag them from screen to screen.

chad, press and hold any of the icons until they all start to vibrate. Then you can drag them from place to place, page to page.

You have to pull them right to the edge and hold and the next page should come to the screen pulling the icon onto it. Keep trying.

Did you notice that the online user guide, dated June 17, 2009, is not covering any of the improvements and additions of 3.0?

online manuals page

They appear to be on the in-phone help file that was loaded with the update to 3.0 (which also includes features exclusive to the 3GS!)

I greatly appreciate all of you being the sacrificial lambs and working all the bugs out for me by discovering any problems and allowing Apple time to correct them.
Never be the first one in the water, you never know what is waiting. I will be waiting to download 3.0 till saturday.

I got wiped too...but it backed up and restored...now I have 3.0...but it seems to be painfully slow...and now my 1980s arcade classic Space Ace keeps locking up....haven't checked any of the other apps though.

I like the multi-email...but man everything is ssssssslllllloooooow.

I was told today that it will not be allowed in the US.

anyone can confirm or deny?

I found a site that has instructions for enabling tethering.

http://www.phonetweaks.com/canadian-carriers/8252-enable-tethering-fido-rogers-iphone.html

It does have something for AT&T in addition to our Canadian carriers.

Since updating to 3.0, my iPhone is faster not slower.

If anyone on AT&T is interested in tethering 3.0, go here: http://mrnasty.org/2009/06/iphone-3-0-release-setting-up-united-states-tethering/

I enabled tethering on my iphone, so I know it works.

AT&T has a 5GB monthly data limit soft cap, so don't worry about AT&T charging you more $$ if you have tethering enabled because if you tether to just browse the web every so often and not download crap then you won't even come close to 5GB.

Benny, can you help me with this? I went to the site you gave us the link to. I installed the file on my iPhone. I paired my my Mac Book and my iPhone. My phone says 'internet tethering'. My computer says connected to iPhone. Safari says not connected to the internet. What have I missed? Bluetooth is on on both devices.

Thanks,

Dave

Ok, I've got it. Didn't have a network set up. Strange, but it never asked me to set up a new network...

I had about the same experience too... It took about 3 hours and two computers to make it work and included a restore to factory defaults. In the end it seems to be OK and working with 3.0 installed.

Glad you figured it out Dave, I'm certainly no expert. I just googled and looked around the internet for information. It is very very cool to know that as along as I have my iPhone and laptop, I can use my laptop anywhere in the country and have access to the internet. Then again with the iPhone I always did anyways.

I have a better, faster internet experience tethered to my iPhone than I do from our Telus high speed ADSL.

I must be living right, mine went through the first time. I did quit all programs except iTunes and Safari so that might have helped.

So far I love it. Cut and paste, wow, it's like you first used it when you just got into computers, you're like 'Cool, where did it go, Oh there it is'. Looks silly when someone's watching you, just ask my girlfriend!

My favorite feature so far is Notes, which I never used before because it couldn't be synced. Now it syncs with Mail and you can make changes there or on the iPhone.

That will keep me occupied until AT&T will allow me to upgrade to the 3G S (Don't EVEN get me started on that...)

That's crazy. I find that the 3G connection is slower than my DSL connection, but fine when there is no other connection. Anyhow, tethering is cool, about time.

Our connection speed is up and down all day. Anywhere from .20 Mb/s to 2.75 Mb/s - spending much more time on the lower end of the scale than the upper. Plus, our wireless router (provided by Telus) has to be reset 3 to 4 times a day. I'm not paying for the service so I have no say who we deal with...
