This weekend, my 15-year-old scooter girl installed Motorsport Scooter's LX150 Euro Turn Signal Kit on my Vespa LX150. We filmed the procedure, and as any proud dad would, I want to share it with you.

I was really happy with this kit. It cleaned up the lines of the bike by getting ride of those pods. If you are thinking about getting this, go for it. The installation was a snap and Motorsport Scooter provided very clear step-by-step instructions.

Installation Video
You can also watch it in a larger view on YouTube.
Here is a link to the part on Motorsport Scooter's web site. I'll be sure to add this to the MV wiki.

Are you getting the LED bulbs which are white, but flash orange when activated? If so, let me know how they work. I'm interested in them.

Yep those are the ones. Hopefully I get them today, but doubt it since I am in Hawaii. I'll post a little vid of the outcome.

Thanks. But I must give the credit to Maureen. This kit was so easy to install, she basically was able to follow the directions with little assistance from me. The padawan is becoming the master.

I got all the parts today. I'm trying to pump myself up to do the mod tonight.

Here are some photos of the bulbs in questioned. They are the same size as the bulbs in the euro kit.

Bulb comparison and universal socket that came with Motorsport Euro Kit

Euro kit and V-LEB WHITE/AMBER bulb. I'm hoping I do not have to use the two resisters (Gold things) to fix the flash blinking.

They look like they should fit with no problem. Let me know if you have to use the gold wires, and if so where you spliced them in.

I thought I had success until I turned on the bike. The running lights (white) would not stay on, instead they would flicker.

Look like I am going to have to use a ballast. Will report back if that works.

V-LED Running and Signal Lights with Euro Signal Kit
1DrunkParrot

Here is the vid. I DID NOT have to use the resistors (gold thingy). Problem I ran into was grounding issues with the 1157 light socket. The running lights was flickering when the scoot engine was running. I had to use a wiretap and ran a separate ground wire and grounded it to the chasis. I think this is a one off case, because my alarm is now not working, and did not have time to check the fuse or troubleshoot the problem since the alarm is wired to the signals.

So in your case you just need to buy these bulbs.

And that is the right size of bulb for the standard filiament in the legshield?

So I could order them and wire it to my headlight? I have a European LX so the indicator wire is already in the legshield indicator.

Thanks

I would check your owners manual for the bulb size. Or, open the cover to look at it. I just checked my owners manual, and they don't list the bulb specifics, just that its Spherical. Lot of help that is. The stock running light bulbs in the USA LX were not 1157. The kit included the new bulb receptacles.

Kristof,

Do you know what type the fitment here in Europe is?

They are talking about a universal 1157 fitment, but I don't think that's what our indicator bulbs are.

I would like to order a set of these V-Leds (and maybe you do to).

I believe the turn signals on the European scooters have two bulb sockets and take two different single filament bulbs. I know that's how they are on the GT/GTS-series. If that's the case, these LED bulbs won't work for you.

Max,

We only have one bulb per indicator. So I hope somebody knows what fitment it is, so I could directly order the right LED.

Found out the problem. I think I disabled my alarm while testing the signals. The Scorpio alarm has a manual override in case you loose your remote. You can program a sequence using your signals to disable the alarm. I've must have done this.

In theory, for your European spec LX, all you will need is:

1. 2x Universal 1157 Socket. You probably can find them at your local auto supply store. You may also need to probably have to solder a 3rd wire for the ground if your socket does not have one. The current bulb in there is a type 57 in the US and V-LED does not sell white/amber LEDS for that type.
http://shop.oreillyauto.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=BOR&MfrPartNumber=PT17&CategoryCode=4075B

2. V-LED white/amber 1157 bulbs
3. Roll of 14 gauge of wire
4. Solder gun and shrink looms for wires. You can use black tape as a substitute.
5. Couple of wire taps
6. 1 terminal ring for grounding
7. Multimeter or test light

Steps:
1. Tap into your running lights or parking lights coming from your main headlight housing (the real little bulb). I think the wire is Yellow/Back. Confirm this with your multimeter. Make sure it's the positive(+) wire.

2. Run that wire near your horn. Give plenty of slack when cutting the wire.

3. Wire up the new sockets.

NOTE: I am kind of guessing the wire colors for your EURO scoot. I'm just going off the US workshop manual. Please verify the + Positive with a testing tool.

Judy, since you have the Motorsport Euro Kit installed already, all you need is the LED bulbs... and maybe have to ground one socket. I can install it for you in 10 minutes.

The euro spec LXes have totally different bulb and socket (yes only 1) in the turn signals. We don't have the running light function.
So to use the V-led double color ledbulbs we need a different socket and electrical connection. Only two wires go to the turn signals, on the right side one black (ground) and one white/blue, on the left side one black and one pink. Here are some pics of the bulb and socket.

OK. I'm waiting in anticipation for the mail. I've ordered both the white/amber turn signal bulbs and the headlight running light bulb. I'll post how it turns out.

Ouch. vicferrari where were you 2 hours ago. Could have saved $10. Oh well, it's good to know about this for the future. I still have the rear lights to get yet. Thanks for the code.

I wish they made Red/Amber bulbs. I would mod my rear turn signals to they will turn red when braking and flash amber when signaling.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Replace the housing with a dual filament, and have the steady on attached to the break light. Both turn signals would light up red when you hit the brakes, but would be amber when turning. I have a similar non-LED set up on my Harley, and would love to have it on the Vespa.
